Students learn what teachers decide they should learn, and the teachers decide when it’s time to learn. Why shouldn’t a student be able to learn when it is most convenient for him or her, by teachers who are ready to instruct, regardless of where in the world they are.
A student in China wants to learn English. A TESOL-certified English language teacher in London is looking for a job. Why should the student and teacher need a classroom to facilitate the learning process?
“Practice” is the art of failing repeatedly until success is achieved. This should be embraced in education.
Engagement and interaction are critical to the learning process, not just with interaction with a teacher, but also through interaction with other students. Teachers are some of the most influential people in students’ lives, so why should we remove them from the learning process? In groups, students help create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
Not all students learn the same. Your education should match your pace. Why do we treat all students as if they learn the same way throughout their entire education?
Some students are early risers, while others are night owls. Some students can only learn over lunch. When the student picks their preferred time, the best learning happens.
This is an opportunity so applicants are invited from across the Asia, UK, US and Canada. However, before you can start teaching, you’ll have to meet a few requirements. Language specialists are required to have a Bachelor’s Degree as well as some relevant work experience.
Obviously, ESL teaching experience is preferred, but not mandatory. You must also be familiar with using computers as our lessons take place in a Virtual Classroom online. Technical requirements for a home office setup are listed on the website and include: a webcam, a headset with microphone, an up to date operating system with Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.
If you meet these requirements and are interested in a position, you’re invited to apply using the contact form at the bottom of the page and complete our IT Test to ensure that your computer will be able to teach on our Teaching Platform. Our recruiters will then get in touch with you regarding the balance of the application process. The interview will be done using our teaching platform and will be approximately 25 minutes long
Once you’ve completed your application, simply wait to hear back from us. When the company finds a match, they’ll be sure to contact you as soon as possible.
Our classes run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Language specialists are able to choose preferred hours and create a truly customised work schedule. Language specialists will need to teach a minimum of 5 hours a week during peak times. Class sizes are quite small and range from 1 to 6 students, with an average of 2-4 students per class. Classes for Junior Learners will mostly be one on one.
Lesson plans are already created and supplied through the company. You are automatically provided with appropriate lesson plans for each class you teach, based on the students’ ability level and individual background. This means there is very little planning and preparation on your part! All class sessions are conversation-based. As a language specialist, you are required to create a fun, friendly and open environment where all students can participate equally. You will be expected to foster interaction between the students. Consultants will be evaluated monthly for Base Rate increases based on Performance and Contribution hours.
Be able to over emphasise your energy when on camera so that the students remain focused and engaged. There are multiple ways to do this such as body language, facial expressions, the use of props and the tone of your voice.
This is about student’s output. We want the students’ speaking 70% and the teachers’ speaking 30%. For low level students, you can encourage them to repeat what you say. Then you can use some strategies to encourage them to speak. Always praise students for the smallest effort and progress they make.
Imagine you are travelling in a foreign country and do not know how to speak the language. How do you use non-verbal cues to communicate with people? Use your hands and facial expressions a lot (which are easier to be captured by the camera) to explain a new word or concept.
Especially for low-level students, it is very crucial. It’s important to pace yourself slow enough for the level they are in. Make sure you wait after giving instruction to allow for the students to think and to produce the output. Also bear in mind that there is a delay because of the internet.
Always have some props handy such as some funny puppets and letter cards. You may also start with the white board, because this can be any prop to draw and write on. When using a prop, you can bring is close to the screen and then far from the screen – depth can create energy and engagement.
When you teach junior students who mostly have very limited English, you have to simplify and simplify! Always remember to use very simple language, your TPR and your props to get the message across.
Time management is often one of the top complaints from parents. Remember to preview the materials and manage your time properly. Control the time you use to do greetings and warm up activities to no more than 3-5 minutes. Stick to the learning objective instead of sidetracking too much. Always try best to finish the material and make sure your students have the opportunity to speak for majority of the time.
